1,2-propanediol (CAS 57-55-6, PG Propylene glycol USP and industrial technical grade) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C3H8O2, which is miscible with water, ethanol and a variety of organic solvents. Normally, it is colorless and viscous liquid, almost tasteless, and slightly sweet. Propylene glycol can be used as the raw material of unsaturated polyester resin, and can be used as a wetting agent in cosmetics, toothpaste and soap in combination with glycerin or sorbitol. It is used in hair dyes as a moisture adjusting and hair homogenizing agent, as well as antifreeze, cellophane, plasticizer and pharmaceutical industry.
